Your motivation comes from within.
Pep Talk: You’re stressed out. Your plate is full. Maybe you let something temporarily fall by the wayside and, the second you do, here comes your supervisor (boss, teacher, manager, president, team leader, parent, etc.) to point out where you’ve dropped the ball. Inside, you’re screaming, “Yes, thank you. I know I messed up, but can you at least acknowledge how hard I’m working otherwise? I’m doing a bunch of amazing stuff! Can you just let me rest for a fucking second without pointing out that this is life or death, that this is what you’re paying me for, that I’m going to lose everything I’ve worked for in life?” Outside, you may be crying. Blurg. It is neither helpful nor motivating when someone points out what you already know and it is extra-special-annoying when they’re not even trying to be helpful, when they’re trying to scare you. But let’s concede that it’s not furthering our cause to mope. It’s counterproductive to hate this person. Let’s find some way to forget about their squawking and do better for ourselves. Don’t forget, you really are working hard. You should be proud of yourself.
Today remind yourself: My motivation comes from within.
