Shout Out: Holy shit, Maggie is amazing!

“After dealing with a sexual assault at the beginning of last semester, I was able to still finish with a 3.32. That’s the lowest GPA I’ve ever produced in my three years at college, but it was good enough to keep my scholarship. I’ll graduate this May without paying a cent for college, too! I have now started therapy, have told some members of my family, am possibly starting some medication to help, and am finally able to look at brighter things.” - Maggie

Maggie, I’m so thrilled with your commitment to your education and your health. I’m proud of you for taking the necessary steps and making yourself a priority. By sharing your story, you’re helping someone else grow gradually stronger.
College is not a safe place. It makes me sad to say that, but it’s true. A lot of us have been through what you experienced and, God, I wish it never happened. It’s possible to feel good again, it just takes as long as it takes.
This is a good opportunity for me to give my semi-annual rape speech: Just because you don’t think of yourself as a rapist doesn’t mean you aren’t one. Reconsider your actions and don’t lay a finger on anyone unless they’re stone cold sober, of age, awake, and they tell you it’s OK to touch them. In fact, get it in writing.
