You don’t change for approval. You change for the better.

Pep talk: If you’ve been brave enough to make a change, then I know you’re also strong enough to withstand the criticism associated with challenging others’ perceptions of you. People like it when you’re simple and easy to understand. They love to be able to say, “Oh typical Rachel, she always wears her hair curly and drinks until she blacks out.” So when I change my hair or I get sober, people react with sadness and discomfort. Do they want what’s best for me? No. They want me frozen in time because it makes them feel safe. But it is not your job to make them feel safe, it is your job to live the best life you can. If that means changing a bad habit or revamping your appearance for the hell of it, go for it.

Today remind yourself: I don’t change for approval. I change for the better.
